The average American creates 4.5 pounds of trash each day.

The average person in the US creates approximately 5 pounds of trash every day which adds up to just over 1,800 pounds of trash every year!

The average American family creates about 18 pounds of trash a day which adds up to 6,570 pounds of trash per year. Most of that is destined for landfills.

Do you know what most of that waste contains? Food! Totaling around 200 billion pounds a year!

And that organic material emits methane when it breaks down which is 28-36 times more potent than the carbon emitted from passenger vehicles. Think of that!

However, approximately 1,200 pounds (545 kg) of that organic food waste could be composted instead of ending up in our landfills.

Plastic, paper, metals, wood and clothing account for most of the rest of the landfill waste. So much more of that could be recycled if disposed of properly. Plus a lot of this made up of "disposable" products.

Here is where we can make a difference!

We are all interconnected as global citizens and have our part to play in facing the climate crisis.
